An entire generation of American girls may have hashed over their first kisses between walls, and linens, bedecked with Floribunda, Wild Clematis, Bramble, and Barton Cottage. The last is the one with a wide white stripe and a narrower milky-blue stripe, overlaid with sprays of wildflowers. Look at a swatch of it and you will want to throw your hair into a side ponytail and make a bowl of microwave popcorn.
Lots of my friends wore those Laura Ashley floral frocks to dances back in high school, all likely bought at the Laura Ashley store at King of Prussia mall.
Slightly less formal than the overwrought Jessica McClintock confections we bought for proms, those romantic-looking Ashley cotton dresses were perfect for Soph Hops and Homecoming Dances, or so my friends tell me.
I never had one, because those princess-waisted, mutton-chop sleeved things looked particularly horrible on busty Sicilian girls with junk in the trunk.
