So I just slept for like 11 hours and am now watching the ABC News Democratic debate and drinking an amazing cup of coffee. That's about as luxurious as I get, friends.
People keep complaining about how looong this campaign is, how eaaarly it is, but yo. As the saying goes, the beauty of this election is that, at least for now, you don't have to be "against" anything. Take a good look at the field and pick your horse.
This "debate" isn't really any more than George Stephanopolous asking them questions and having a roundtable response. They're interrupting each other, but politely, and as expected, the frontrunners are dominating. Kucinich and Gravel (and the dude from the Iowa newspaper who's not getting a lot of face time) have to fight their way in.
* Bill Richardson, Super-Diplomat: They were going over "Is Obama too inexperienced?" question and there was a really awkward moment when Joe Biden, standing next to Obama, said he stood by his assertion that Obama's not ready to be president. After about two beats, Richardson stepped into the vacuum with a really funny, self-deprecating remark that totally changed the entire tone.
* John Edwards knows he's not going to be President. In the middle of a pretty deep conversation about Pakistan and whether to engage our enemies, George went to him and the first thing out of his mouth was, "What about a little hope here?" His contributions seem really unfocused.
* Obama looks tired and . . . pale. Wan. Kinda sweaty. Dude needs a few days off.
* Style report: All the men are literally wearing the same navy blue suit. Hillary's rocking a nice tan pantsuit -- with a nice piece of flair!
