What a week -- where to begin? Right, with the money.
The XPN Winter Fund Drive is ongoing, and it's time for you to give them some cash. Go to www.xpn.org, make a pledge and get the sweet swag.
Here's my humble, personal pitch: If I've ever turned you on to a song, an artist, an album or a show, you should thank XPN. Because if I didn't hear it there first, I probably saw the artist perform -- often for free -- at World Cafe Live. Some of you outside the Philly area have emailed to tell me you've started listening to the XPN stream -- well, that ain't free, punks.
This is, I think, the seventh fund drive I've worked. Every time, I get snark from friends who think it's looney for me to get up at 4:30 a.m. to do anything, let alone volunteer at a radio station. Well, you regular Citizen Mom and Phawker readers who enjoyed my son's adventures at his first rock concerts -- first three, actually -- know they were all XPN shows. Those good memories with Jack are worth a few hours of my time.
What's more, ridiculously corny as it sounds, hearing the phone ring at, like, 6:02 a.m. is a moment of genuine good feeling for everyone involved. And kids, good feelings (and rock music) are what keep us young.

Over at Phawker, things are going swimmingly. I'm feeling OK about my editing, and enjoying the writing. Been doing a bit of work for Econo, too -- reviews of the new Clap Your Hands Say Yeah and the latest Apples in Stereo. Checkit!

Tomorrow night, I'll be joining the Sugar Town ladies, who for reasons unknown have asked yours truly to do a reading at this month's party. Not to tip my hand too much, but given the date's proximity to Valentine's Day, you can bet I'll be testifyin' about my three favorite things: love, sex and music.

But wait, there's more! On Sunday evening, I'll be joining the party mammals over at Rock Town Hall, for the Grammy Bash.
Cripes. I need a nap after all that.
